EVENT DESCRIPTION


This course will cover eligibility for innocent spouse relief, including alternative pathways to challenging a joint liability. Jake Linn, Esq. and Heather Posey, EA, JD will walk through how to determine your client's best options, as well as how to complete a petition for innocent spouse relief, the determination process, and how to appeal an adverse determination. Finally, the course will briefly cover what happens after relief has been granted, as well as discuss Injured Spouse Allocations, a separate mechanism for protecting certain taxpayers filing joint returns.

1. Evaluate client eligibility for innocent spouse relief and determine optimal pathways for challenging joint tax liability 2. Navigate the innocent spouse relief petition process, including filing requirements, IRS determination procedures, and appeals of adverse decisions 3. Understand post-relief implications and distinguish between innocent spouse relief and injured spouse allocations
