EVENT DESCRIPTION
IRS collection notices are among the most anxiety-inducing documents a taxpayer can receive—and among the most misunderstood. This course equips practitioners with the knowledge to quickly identify and interpret the most common IRS balance-due and collection notices (CP series and Letter series), understand the IRS collection timeline, and advise clients on appropriate responses. Topics include the Notice of Federal Tax Lien, the Final Notice of Intent to Levy, Collection Due Process rights, and installment agreement and currently-not-collectible options.
EVENT OBJECTIVE
• Identify and interpret the most frequently issued IRS collection notices, including CP14, CP503, CP504, Letter 1058/LT11, and related lien and levy notices
• Explain the IRS collection timeline from initial balance-due notice through levy action and describe the significance of each stage
• Describe Collection Due Process (CDP) rights and the timeframes and procedures for filing a timely CDP hearing request
• Evaluate client collection resolution options, including installment agreements, offers in compromise, and currently-not-collectible status
• Advise clients on immediate action steps upon receipt of a collection notice to protect their rights and avoid escalation
